Carbon Monoxide and Safety

Your home is your safe haven from the unpredictable weather outside. However, some of the products and appliances you use to make your home a better place to live can produce a colorless, odorless gas
called carbon monoxide (CO). Fuels such as natural gas, LP gas, kerosene, coal, wood and charcoal, as well as automobiles can all have the potential to produce CO.

Exposure to CO can cause fatigue, chest pains, impaired vision and coordination, head-aches, dizziness, confusion, nausea, and in extreme cases, death. While the products that use these fuels undergo rigorous quality control checks by their manufacturers, it has been reported that more than 200 people in the United States die every year from carbon monoxide produced by improperly maintained fuel-burning appliances.

That's why Bryant recommends following a regular schedule of furnace maintenance in addition to placing a Carbon Monoxide Alarm in every sleeping location and/or one on every floor of your home.
